“The Pioneer Cabin”
Visible from Main Street on the front of the building, “The Pioneer Cabin” mural depicts an 1800s cabin interior scene. The two female figures represent a young girl singing for the sitting cowboy character with her mother directing her to the right. To the far right a bird has landed on the windowsill observing them. Above them on the wall is a Native American bull skull decorated with turquoise and hawk feathers. This iconic natural sculpture symbolizes strength and courage within many tribes.
“HIKING MOUNT WOODSON”
At 12 feet X 70 feet, the expansive mural depicts Mount Woodson as a destination for hikers who travel from around the world to appreciate the incredible views and large boulders unique to the terrain. Many hikers make it a goal to reach the top so they can take photographs of themselves on “Potato Chip Rock,” a thin outcrop resembling a potato chip that looks like it will break off at any moment. Depicted in his mural below Mt. Woodson, the artist projects his vision of a likely panorama of far-reaching vineyards that he foresees in the fast-growing wine-making industry in the Ramona valley.

“ENGINE NUMBER TWO”
This mural is located at the site of Ramona’s original firehouse at 222 Ninth St. This is the 13th Ramona mural sponsored by the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project and is dedicated to the fire brigades who have served the community since the origin of the first firehouse in the early 1950s. The mural is based on Engine No. 2, a 750 GPM Mack, triple-combination pumper purchased about the same time the firehouse was built. The engine was restored by the Poway Firemen’s Association in the 1970s and in the 1990s purchased by Ramona resident Darrell Beck, author of “On Memory’s Back Trail.” Darrell states in his book that he had “on many occasions used the engine’s heavy front bumper to knock down fence posts…often dragging the barbwire behind it.
The main goal of the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Murals Project is to create a reason for passing tourists to STOP and enjoy Ramona’s beauty, charm, character, and heritage.

This 11-panel mural montage titled “Verlaque Pioneer Store” stands on the east wall of businessman Peter Bidegain’s Reds, Whites and Brews at 629 Main St. It is dedicated to Ramona’s first business, built in 1883 and operated by Amos Verlaque and later by his brother Jeff. The Pioneer Store was a stage stop, general store, and post office as well as a place for residents to hang out, chat, buy goods, and receive mail.

“Mr. Yorba”
This mural is based on a historic photo of Vicente Yorba in Yorba Linda, California. He and his family were land owners in very early Orange County history. The town of Yorba Linda was named after his family. It is one of 5 murals painted for a memory care group based in San Diego. I added color and a background to come up with this concept.
